ST. MARYS – Ryan LaBrozzi and Ben Lanich each recorded a
double-double to rally Bradford to a 73-60 win over St. Marys in a
District 9 League basketball game Tuesday night.
LaBrozzi had 27 points (career-high) and 12 rebounds, while
Lanich tossed in 23 points (career-high) and grabbed 18
rebounds.
“Lanich and LaBrozzi had monster games,” BAHS coach Dave Fuhrman
noted. “They played really well. Lanich picked up two quick fouls,
but he was able to get through the game. He didn’t get into any
deeper foul trouble. He has been a dominant force around the
basket.
“LaBrozzi played very well. He got some offensive put backs and
had some nice drives to the baskets. He has been pretty consistent
for us.”
St. Marys (5-6) jumped out to a 21-14 first-quarter lead, but
the Owls (5-6) rallied to knot the contest at 34-34 at the
intermission.
“We played much better in the second half,” Fuhrman emphasized.
“We got off to a good start in the third quarter. Our defensive
intensity picked up.”
Leading St. Marys were Levi Welder (21 points) and Louie Pisani
(17). Pisani is averaging 29 points per game.
“Welder and Pisani had good games,” Furhman said. “We challenged
their shots a lot better in the second half. Our transition defense
was much better. We attacked the basket and we did a better job on
the boards.
“St. Marys has some talented young players. I was concerned
going into the game. They play a fast-paced game with a lot of
emphasis on the three-point shot.”
Bradford shot 29 of 62 from the field (47 percent).
“We have been struggling shooting the ball in a lot of games,”
Fuhrman declared. “It’s a much easier game to play when the ball is
going in the basket.
“We are a much better team than what our record shows. We have
to develop some consistency. We can’t be an up-and-down kind of
team. I was pleased with how our kids responded tonight.”
Bradford hosts Clearfield on Friday.
