A Mount Jewett man was arraigned Friday on charges of attempting
to murder his brother at his Keesler Avenue residence on Dec.
20.
According to court records at on-call District Judge Dom
Cercone’s office, Bradley Mix, 31, of 5 Keesler Ave., was arrested
Friday by Kane-based state police upon his release from Altoona
Hospital, where he had been flown for treatment following injuries
to his neck when he allegedly resisted arrest following the
incident.
At 9:45 p.m. Dec. 20, Officer Nataliya Miroslavna of the Mount
Jewett Borough Police was notified by the McKean County 911 Center
that a male at 5 Keesler Ave. had stolen several handguns and was
threatening to kill his family and himself, according to
records.
Upon arrival at the residence, Miroslavna was met by John Mix,
who told her to get out her gun and Mace because Bradley Mix was
threatening to kill himself and his family, according to court
records.
Miroslavna saw Bradley Mix fighting with two men, who were
identified as his brothers John and Robert. Bradley Mix was yelling
and threatening to shoot the two men, and then threatened to shoot
Miroslavna as well, the records read.
Bradley Mix was restrained until Kane-based state police arrived
to assist. Troopers attempted to take him into custody, but he
continued to resist, sustaining injuries primarily to his neck
during the scuffle with police, the records read.
A Colt handgun was recovered and turned over to police.
He was treated at the scene and then transported to Kane
Community Hospital, and then flown to Altoona Hospital for further
treatment.
A marketing representative at the Altoona Hospital Tuesday said
due to HIPAA, she could not release any information regarding the
extent or severity of Bradley Mix’s injuries upon his arrival at
the hospital. The only information she could release would be a
one-word description of a patient condition of someone currently
admitted to the hospital.
Mix is no longer a patient at the hospital.
On Dec. 20, Miroslavna interviewed John Mix, who said that his
brother Bradley had broken into his father’s home and stolen a
handgun and left several notes “suicidal in nature” and threatened
the lives of the Mix family, according to the records.
John Mix and Robert Mix went to the residence of Bradley Mix to
retrieve the stolen handgun. When they entered the residence,
Bradley Mix pointed a handgun at them and said he was going to kill
them. And he pulled the trigger of the gun, the records read.
The brothers tackled Bradley Mix, and he continued pulling the
trigger of the gun and pulling back the slide of the gun, saying he
was “going to kill everyone,” the records read.
There is no indication given in the court records that anyone
other than Bradley Mix was injured in the altercation or the
subsequent struggle with police.
An arrest warrant was issued for Bradley Mix on Dec. 22 by
District Judge Bill Todd in Smethport.
Bradley Mix was charged with criminal attempted murder, with the
accusation that he “made an overt act that constituted a
substantial step toward the commission of the crime,” the records
read.
He was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault,
first-degree felonies, for attempting to cause serious bodily
injury and for attempting to cause such injury with a deadly
weapon, both towards John Mix; two counts of simple assault,
first-degree misdemeanors; two counts of terroristic threats,
first-degree misdemeanors; recklessly endangering another person
and resisting arrest, second-degree misdemeanors.
Following arraignment, he was committed to McKean County Jail in
lieu of $100,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing was set for Jan.
22 in front of District Judge Michael Kennedy in Kane.
