WARREN – Bradford High couldn’t overcome a slow start in falling
to Warren 47-42 in non-league high school girls hoops Friday.
The Lady Dragons maintained a 26-17 halftime edge and held on
despite being outscored by the Lady Owls 25-21 in the second
half.
“We just came out flat in the first half,” lamented Doug Lloyd,
Bradford coach. “I don’t know if it was because it was our third
game of the week or what.
“We just didn’t come out well, but we picked it up in the second
half. Warren held out for the win.”
The Lady Dragons were paced by White’s 13 marks.
“Defensively we were a little tired because we were a step
behind most of the night,” Lloyd observed.
Nikki Siffrinn’s 15 points and four assists led BHS, while
Shelly Fuhrman contributed 12 tallies.
“They played a tough man defense and we struggled running our
offense at times,” the Owls’ coach admitted. “We did get some open
looks and we couldn’t hit them.
“We were 19-for-50 (38 percent). That’s a tough night and that’s
a credit to their defense. We were 6-for-10 from the foul line –
that isn’t that great either.”
Also for BHS, Whitney Cline posted six points and 11 rebounds,
Tricia Copeland came up with eight rebounds and three steals and
Katie White accounted for six points and three steals.
“This was a game that we could’ve won if we’d played in the
first half like we did in the second. We were just flat and they
took advantage of it.
“We had a good run in the second half and came up short of
making a game of it. Warren did what they had to do.”
The Lady Owls (5-4) are idle until Tuesday (3 p.m.) when they
face Smethport in the Port Allegany Christmas Tournament.
