ON THE MENU: Winter fruit, colossal shrimp cocktail, beef
tenderloin, and Barney-shaped Christmas cookies. What could be
    better for a holiday meal?[neWLine]

That’s what’s on the menu at the White House for holiday
receptions. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.[neWLine]

Here’s some of the other fare -[neWLine]

A display of specialty cheeses and winter fruits (served with a
bountiful display of lavish specialty crackers and spiced
    pecans).[neWLine]

Colossal shrimp cocktail and Jonah crab claws (served with
Ramsey’s cocktail sauce and spiced remoulade).[neWLine]

Stuffed turkey breasts with winter mushrooms, cheese and
    brandied cranberries.[neWLine]

Sugar-cured Virginia ham with hot pepper mustard (served with
    warm blue corn muffins).[neWLine]

Chicken-fried beef tenderloin with white onion gravy (served
    with tiny icebox rolls).[neWLine]

Herb-roasted lollipop lamb chops served with warm yeast
    rolls.[neWLine]

    Honey cup mustard sauce.[neWLine]

Fresh tamales with tomatillo sauce and black beans.[neWLine]

    Baked white cheddar farfalle.[neWLine]

    Sweet potato souffl_.[neWLine]

    Asparagus tier with lemon-garlic aioli.[neWLine]

Golden and crimson beet salad with orange, fennel, and
    feta.[neWLine]

    Chocolate peppermint cookies with peppermint
    crunch.[neWLine]

Pecan sandie tree (Mexican wedding cookies, Russian tea cakes)
    with layers of cookies.[neWLine]

Holiday ornamental cookies in the shapes of Barney, Miss
Beazley, Christmas trees, snowflakes, candy canes.[neWLine]

    Red hat box mascarpone cake.[neWLine]

White pound cake with mascarpone cream filling, red marzipan
frosting and red ribbon bow decoration.[neWLine]

    Coconut cake.[neWLine]

Coconut chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream filling and 7-minute
    meringue frosting.[neWLine]

Chocolate roulade (Christmas log): Soft ganache frosting with a
chocolate sponge, meringue mushrooms, magnolia leaves in white
    chocolate, raspberries.[neWLine]

    Mini tartlettes.[neWLine]

Pecan pie, lemon meringue pie, orange chiffon and chocolate
    Boston cream pie.[neWLine]

    Chocolate truffles.[neWLine]

    Homemade, bittersweet chocolate ganache.[neWLine]

Long-stem strawberries with dark chocolate dipping
    sauce.[neWLine]

Warm Macintosh apple cobbler with oatmeal crumble.[neWLine]

    Pumpkin trifle.[neWLine]

Spiced pumpkin mousse with whipped cream and shaved dark
chocolate.[neWLine][neWLine]OH, ZIPPO: Fran Rovito of Bradford was
watching “”Myth Busters”” on The Discovery Channel where they
tested a Zippo lighter to see if it was bullet-proof. Fran writes,
“”It is not bullet proof. The bullet went right through
it.””[neWLine]The show must have been a rerun because we caught the
program in the past. We still don’t understand, however, how the
Zippo could have failed the test. The Zippo museum has too many
lighters that offer proof to the contrary.
