Ben Daggett quadrupled and three other Bradford swimmers doubled
to send the Owls to an 88-56 win over Warren in non-league high
school swim action Thursday at Pitt-Bradford.
Daggett won the 500 free and 200 free and was on the 400 free
relay and 200 medley relay.
Alex Goodman, Adam Barnes and Dan Gonzalez doubled for the Owls
(1-1).
“I’m ecstatic and thrilled for the boys team,” BAHS coach Pam
Digel said. “We knew our numbers were up this season. Tonight’s
victory was not just based on numbers but on performances.
“It’s been a long time since the boys beat a District 10 team.
We had fantastic leadership from Ben Daggett, Vince Pascarella and
Alex Goodman. The rest of the team followed right along.”
In the girls’ meet, Warren defeated Bradford 89-81.
Katie Slavinski (50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free
relay) and Ellie Imhof (400 free relay, 200 free relay, 100 fly,
200 IM) quadrupled for the Lady Owls (0-2).
Erica Pascarella earned a triple (500 free, 200 free relay, 400
free relay).
“We are thrilled with the girls’ performances,” Digel added. “I
didn’t think we would hang with them for team points as well as we
did.
“Our leaders – Erica Pascarella, Ellie Imhof, Katie Slavinski
and Katlyn Nelson – set the standard tonight and the rest of the
team followed right along.
“Heather Vickery and Janie Reiley had personal best times as far
as dual meets go. We were lacking a little bit in our depth to
finish the job as a team.
“We are fortunate to be swimming our meets at Pitt-Bradford this
season. Because it’s the first season of competition out there,
pool records are somewhat open.
“Our girls’ 200 free relay of Nelson, Imhof, Pascarella and
Slavinski had an extremely exciting race against Warren capturing
the race by .02 of a second and setting a pool record.”
Digel praised the performances of Slavinski.
“Her sprinting performances were incredible for this time of
year,” Digel emphasized. “I have to give a lot of credit to sprint
coach Dan Confer and the work he is doing with her.
“Both of our squads have been working extremely hard since our
opening meet with Meadville. We spent a lot of time on stroke
technique as well as intensifying our focus as far as quality swims
are concerned.
“I have to give the kids a lot of credit. Everyone that hit the
water had seasonal best time performances with some swimmers
dropping as much as 10 seconds in their individual events.”
Bradford is at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg on
Saturday.
