Grumley to play baseball at Penn State University

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg Area High School senior Calvin Grumley
signed a letter of intent to play baseball for Penn State
University on Thursday.

Grumley, a left-handed pitcher, has played in the East-West
Legion game in each of the last two seasons and was named MVP his
junior year.

This past summer he played in the Junior National Tournament in
Joplin, Mo., and the Express Cape Cod Classic.

Ohio, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, St. Bonaventure and Louisville
were also interested in Grumley.

Grumley is a triple threat in athletics. In addition to
baseball, he also plays football and basketball. Grumley has been
named an All-Conference honoree in all three sports.

When asked how he felt after signing in relation to his senior
year, Grumley replied, “It makes it a whole lot easier.”

Grumley will play for new Penn State University coach Rob Wine
in the spring of 2008.

Grumley has the unique opportunity to play in a minor league
ball park. Penn State shares the field with the State College
Spikes – a short season Class A affiliate of the Pittsburgh
Pirates.
