ELF HELP: Consider this a reprieve: Today was to have been the
deadline for donating gifts to the ELF Fund – but it’s been
extended until Monday.
We’re in the throes of organizing the Era’s Less Fortunate Fund
but hope a couple extra shopping days gives you time to get those
ELF gifts purchased and dropped off to ELF headquarters.
This year, headquarters are at the Office of Economic and
Community Development on Russell Boulevard.
Gifts may be taken there during normal business hours. In
addition, anyone taking a special ELF tag from one of the Christmas
trees around town may purchase a gift for that individual named on
the tag and return it to the store of origin.
As always, The Era at 43 Main St. is also a place where
individuals may drop off these gifts for children and senior
citizens.
If you don’t feel like getting into the shopping melee, remember
that the ELF Fund always accepts monetary contributions – which are
tax deductible.
They may be dropped off at The Era or mailed to us at P.O. Box
365. They also may be mailed to P.O. Box 464, Bradford, Pa.,
16701.
As you may know, this year the ELF Fund has been split into its
two main components.
The ELF Committee is handling the gift portion of the program
providing new toys and clothing for children, and gifts for senior
citizens. The Salvation Army is handling the food needs of the
community.
Also this year, the ELF Fund is teaming with Project Care, an
outreach program for senior citizens.
Meanwhile, another important part of the ELF program – senior
citizens bus trip and holiday party – is set to get under way
Sunday, Dec. 17.
With the cooperation of the Area Transportation Authority and
the Bradford Area School District, the ELF Fund takes senior
citizens from throughout the Bradford area on a tour of the holiday
lighting with a Christmas party following at the University of
Pittsburgh at Bradford.
The Bradford community has always been so generous to its
neighbors in need that being a part of the ELF Fund is a humbling
experience for The Bradford Era.
