Balanced scoring and strong defense propelled Pitt-Bradford to a
66-57 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference men’s basketball
victory over Medaille College at the Sport & Fitness Center on
Wednesday.
Shawn Spindler scored 13 points and had four assists, Dan Thomas
added 12 points and five assists, and Ryan Race contributed 12
points for the Panthers (3-2, 1-0) in the conference opener.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well as Medaille was
22-for 55 (40 percent) and the Panthers were just 23-for-62 (37
percent) from the floor. Pitt-Bradford did manage a huge advantage
in turnovers as the Panthers only committed nine compared to
Medaille’s 25.
The Panthers’ biggest lead in the first half was 31-24 on their
way to a 31-26 intermission margin.
Pitt-Bradford opened a 45-30 bulge with 12:58 remaining, but
Medaille cut the deficit to 55-50 with 5:35 left.
A layup by Spindler, two free throws from Thomas and a basket by
Aaron Stang gave the Panthers a 61-50 lead with 3:19 showing.
Seven straight points by Medaille (2-2, 0-1) shaved the
disparity to 61-57 with 37 seconds remaining, but Race and Thomas
nailed two free throws each to ice the win.
The Panthers visit La Roche College on Saturday (4 p.m.).
