There is bad news for the rest of the women’s basketball
programs in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Defending AMCC champion Medaille College defeated Pitt-Bradford
76-52 and the Lady Mavericks didn’t exactly bring their “A” game to
the Sport & Fitness Center on Wednesday.
Medaille shot just 39 percent from the field and committed 18
turnovers, but the Lady Panthers also shot 39 percent from the
floor and had 25 turnovers.
The Lady Mavericks (4-1, 1-0) jumped out to a 12-2 lead on five
points from Carissa Ferrucci, and three-pointers by Marisa Clark
and Amanda Walling.
Medaille then opened a 29-12 bulge with five minutes left in the
half, but Megan Richards converted a six-footer and Brittany McLean
followed with a deep trifecta from the top of the key to cut the
Pitt-Bradford deficit to 29-17 with 4:13 showing.
After trailing 38-24 at the intermission, Katie Moore canned a
layup and a triple to pull the Lady Panthers within 40-29 with
18:37 remaining.
A three-pointer by Clark started an 8-2 Medaille run and then
Tai Brown scored five straight points to get Pitt-Bradford’s
disparity to 48-36 at the 16:25 juncture.
The visitors from Buffalo then went on a 19-3 spurt, which was
finalized by a pair of bombs from the right wing by Noelle Keller
to give Medaille a 67-39 advantage with 7:32 left.
Two free throws by Janessa Vandegriff then presented the Lady
Mavericks with the biggest lead of the night at 72-41 with just
4:38 showing.
Amanda Baker had 18 points, Ferrucci registered 15 points, Clark
contributed 12 points and five assists, and Vandegriff added 11
points for Medaille.
Brown had 17 points, Moore added 13 points, McLean pitched in
with 10 points and Richards hauled in eight rebounds for the Lady
Panthers.
Pitt-Bradford (0-4, 0-1) travels to La Roche College on Saturday
(2 p.m.).
