LOCAL ANGLE: Former Bradford resident Christa Scheler, daughter
of the Rev. Eddie and Trish Scheler, was the opening act for
country music singer Gene Watson in Huntsville, Ala., this past
Saturday.
In addition to her crowd favorites, Scheler performed two
original songs she has recorded since moving to Alabama.
The songs, “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” and, “How Do You Fall
Out of Love,” are expected to eventually make their way to a full
album that is currently in the works.
While living in Bradford, Christa performed at many events in
the area including Kiwanis Kapers, First Night, Summer Fest and
many more. She also recorded a Christmas Album while in Bradford
that was played on WESB Radio.
TAKE NOTE: Be sure to clear all ice and snow from your vehicle
this winter before hitting the highways.
That’s the word from the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation about a new state law which provides fines for
motorists if snow or ice that falls from their vehicle causes
injury or death to other motorists or pedestrians.
PennDOT Secretary Allen D. Biehler says: “We’ve urged motorists
to remove all ice and snow from their vehicles before traveling for
years – not only for their own safety, but for the safety of all
motorists. We hope motorists will take this advice all the more
seriously now that the new law is in place.”
Enacted in May, Act 37 states that when snow or ice is dislodged
or falls from a moving vehicle and strikes another vehicle or
pedestrian causing death or serious bodily injury, the operator of
the vehicle from which the snow or ice came is subject to a fine of
$200 to $1,000 for each offense.
BUTTERFLY LADY: Pat Pascarella called lately to tell us more
about that “butterfly lady” a reader had asked about.
Pat said this “butterfly lady” would take clothespins, paint
them and add a pair of wings.
Pat remembers the woman’s first name was May but couldn’t
remember her last name – “It was 61 years ago,” she said. At that
time, Pat’s father had brought May to their house to help her
mother with the ironing.
TODAY’S QUOTE: “Open government is something that most people
are for until they have the reins of power. Then it’s a pain in the
neck,” said Terry Francke, general counsel, Californians Aware,
2004.
