RTS for Tuesday

ROAD BLOCKS: Judy Bickel: “We have lived in Florida for eight
years and we acknowledge the good and bad of living here, many
things have previously been addressed.”

“We just spent two weeks in Bradford and there are a couple of
questions I would like to see answered in the Era.

(1) What in the world were the City Fathers thinking when they
permitted the destruction and construction that is going on through
out the city? (2) How in the world are you going to shovel the snow
between the barricades on 219 and where are you going to deposit
the snow? There is just enough room for the traffic.”

“The detour signs are everywhere and if you are not familiar
with Bradford I am sure many visitors are getting confused and lost
daily. The whole town in under construction.

“Didn’t anyone stop to think what this is doing to the merchants
trying to make a living?”

We know, Judy, we know. Those of us who have had to live every
day with these multiple detours and road closings have been
frustrated nearly to the point of tears.

But the potential problem winter driving on the Bradford Bypass?
We shudder to think … Officials are slated to meet Thursday to work
out the problems and we wish them (and us) luck.

LAST WORD: An interesting thing about our Bradford vs. Florida
debate: People do like it here! One of the most persistent things
about Bradfordians over the years has been how quick they were to
complain about their own town. Don’t get us wrong: That seems to be
a universal attitude among residents of all communities, big and
small.

Still, it was a surprise to us how many people rose up to defend
the old home town.

Maybe all the whiners have finally left Bradford for warmer
climes.

COMPARISONS: Jim Flynn has a comment on our recent item on a
poll of Americans which made us question their intelligence.

He writes, “Respondents were far more familiar with the Three
Stooges – Larry, Curly and Moe – than the three branches of the
U.S. government – judicial, executive and legislative. Seventy-four
percent identified the former, 42 percent the latter. Do you mean
to tell me there is a difference between the Three Stooges and the
three branches of the U.S. Government? Wow! Sometimes it is hard to
tell the difference.”
