COUDERSPORT – Coudersport’s defense and Mother Nature teamed up
to hold Kane to just 31 yards of total offense as the Falcons
posted an 18-0 shutout of the Wolves in AML football action
Friday.
“The weather wasn’t good and our kids are playing good defense
right now, so it was kind of a combination of those things,” said
Paul Simcoe, Coudy coach.
Mostly, though, it was the unbeaten Falcon defense.
“Guys are doing a real good job of communicating on defense,”
Simcoe commented. “They’re playing coverages the way we’d like them
to play it. We’ve got people where they belong and a lot of people
around the ball.”
Leading the Falcons flying to the ball were Carin Knight and
Drew Levavasseur. Knight piled up 13 tackles (two for loss) and two
fumble recoveries, while Levavasseur contributed eight tackles and
one pick.
As a unit, the Falcons racked up six quarterback sacks.
“I think our defense has really improved as the season’s gone
on,” Simcoe remarked. “The last couple of games the weather’s had a
lot to do with offensive production. It’s so wet and muddy it’s
hard to keep things going (on offense) in weather conditions like
that.
“But our defense has been playing so well that’s been a plus for
us. We’ve been able to shut people out even though we haven’t
scored a lot of points the last two games.”
Coudy’s first points in this one came on a 14-yard run by
Levavasseur midway through the second quarter. That capped a
two-play, 26-yard drive after a fumble recovery. The pass failed
and it was 6-0.
Kane lost a fumble on its ensuing possession, giving the hosts
the ball at the Wolves’ 45. Chris Cavallari would haul in an
eight-yard pass from Justin Kinder for a 12-0 score.
The Falcons set the final margin at 18-0 in the fourth quarter
when Levavasseur found the end zone from 11 yards out.
Levavasseur finished with 48 yards rushing and his two TDs,
while Cavallari picked up 93 yards on the ground to go along with
his score.
The 9-0 Falcons will next host Curwensville at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 for
the AML championship.
