Coudersport struggled but managed to pull off a win over Austin
18-25, 25-9, 12-25, 25-19, 15-10 in North Tier League volleyball
Thursday.
Keying Coudersport were Brooke Campbell (8 blocks, 13 kills),
Jessica Wilson (13 kills, 27 digs), Brianna Vought (6 kills, 7
points, 19 digs), Karli Duffee (18 assists, 6 blocks, 11 points, 2
aces) and Sabrina Hershey (13 points, 25 digs).
Pacing Austin were Sonni Gordnier (8 points, 8 kills), Melissa
Sinnamond (15 points, 5 aces, 1 kill, 25 assists), Whitney Crosby
(9 points, 3 aces, 13 kills, 2 digs) and Casey Boucher (7 points, 2
aces, 3 kills, 2 blocks).
“It was an up and down match,” said Michelle Valenti, Austin
coach. “Both teams played a tough match. We just couldn’t quite
finish it. My team played hard, and I am proud of them.”
Coudersport is 13-2 overall and 11-1 in league play, while
Austin evens its record to 6-6.
In other action, Cameron County defeated Smethport 25-14, 25-16,
15-25, 25-15.
Keying Cameron County were Lauren Cook (14 points, 2 aces, 62
assists), Karen Kesterholt (5 kills, 3 blocks) and Julia Glosek (5
points, 1 ace, 2 kills, 15 digs).
Leading Smethport were Matti Baker (8 points, 4 aces, 7 blocks,
13 kills), Lauren Kinniburgh (9 points, 2 aces, 5 blocks, 7 kills)
and Kristina Schwab (3 points, 1 ace, 1 block, 4 kills, 6
assists).
“We made some changes with our lineup, and everything fell into
place tonight for us,” Amy Schwab, Cameron County coach, said.
Cameron County (2-10) travels to Northern Potter on Tuesday.
Smethport is now 1-11 on the season.
Elsewhere, Northern Potter (14-3, 10-2) defeated Port Allegany
25-14, 21-25, 25-14, 25-20.
Leading Northern Potter were Emily Gamble (7 kills, 27 assists,
10 digs), Laura Kalasnik (14 kills, 9 digs), Brittany Rounds (12
kills, 21 digs) and Nikki Thompson (6 kills, 19 assists, 13
digs).
Pacing the Lady Gators (5-9, 3-9) were Lauren Delacour (9
kills), Heather Stuckey (12 points, 3 aces, 8 digs), Kayla
Raudenbush (6 kills, 4 blocks, 4 aces) and Chelsea Tucker (5
kills).
“Northern Potter played very consistent and kept the ball in
play,” Port Allegany coach Meg Hutton said.
Port hosts Smethport on Tuesday.
In other NTL action, Oswayo Valley defeated Otto-Eldred 22-25,
25-17, 25-19, 25-17.
Randi Pearsall led OV with 19 kills, five points and four
blocks, along with Tanya Salada (15 points), Lauren Donovan (12
kills, 7 points) and Brittany Mertsock (39 assists, 13 points).
For Otto-Eldred, Melanie Schoonover had 13 assists, eight digs,
seven points and three aces, Brittany Hepfer had one block, 23
digs, nine kills and one ace and Shelby Little had 16 digs, nine
points and one ace.
“They just outhustled us,” said Mary Gibbs, O-E coach. “We made
too many mistakes.”
Oswayo Valley, 14-2 on the season and 10-2 in league, travels to
Austin Tuesday, while Otto-Eldred (9-7, 5-7) visits Coudersport the
same evening.
