BROOKVILLE – The Bradford girls cross country team completed an
undefeated dual meet season, defeating Brookville 17-39
Tuesday.
Bradford (11-0) took the top three spots with Renee Cavallaro
first, Erica Pascarella second and Marissa Buchheit third.
Brookville’s Jessica Swonger gained the fourth position, then
Bradford’s Brittni Wiseman and Megan Prosser sealed the victory for
the Lady Owls by taking the fifth and sixth spots.
Kara Piganelli took the 10 spot, placing ahead of Brookville’s
fifth runner to displace their next scoring position.
“The girls ran a good race tonight. The course was very slippery
and wet due to the amount of rain they received the last couple of
days,” said Bob Macfarlane, Lady Owls coach. “We are very happy
with the outcome of the race.
“This team has worked very hard to get an undefeated season. But
the season was just the dinner. The district meet is the dessert.
We have to be at our best to win.
“We’re proud of the undefeated season, but we must still be
hungry for more. The team has accomplished two of the four goals of
the season.”
On Thursday, Bradford travels to Coopers Lake to run in the
Tri-State Invitational with over 50 teams from the Pittsburgh
area.
“We need to be focused and run our best to get tuned up for our
district meet the following Saturday in Ridgway,” Macfarlane
declared.
In middle school action, the Fretz girls completed a perfect
season (8-0) with a 17-42 victory over Brookville.
The Lady Falcons also have four invitational victories to their
record, which is a school record.
Fretz took the first three spots with Lauren Bauschard (13:52),
Lisa Lau (14:06) and Alexandra Szczupak (14:55) on the two-mile
course.
Mahita Gajanan (16:52) took fifth, Kaitlin Barton (16:52) sixth
and Brigid Colligan (16:58) seventh.ð
“This group of young runners really came on strong by the end of
the season,” said Macfarlane. “They were a great group of young
ladies. Five of them will be moving up to the high school level
next year.
“This group of girls will be a great asset to the future of
Bradford cross country.”
