Round the Square for October 16

BRRADFORD: Through rain, snow, sleet or hail, you see Barb out
there walking all over town. And she welcomes the colder weather.
“”It makes you feel good, and you walk better in it,”” she says. So
at least there’s one person in town who welcomes
winter.[neWLine]

THIS, TOO: More feedback today as we continue to delve into the
pros and cons of where you choose to live:[neWLine]

Bill Bedell writes, “”Greetings from warm, sunny Florida.
Temperature this AM was 53 on my front porch. We are expecting 43
degrees by Saturday (Oct. 14).””[neWLine]

“”I must have missed the information about pizza drivers making
big bucks. My wife has worked for PaPa John’s off and on for the
last six years. It is a part-time delivery position (20-25 hours a
week).[neWLine]

“”She is paid an hourly salary of 7.50 plus 90 cents a delivery
for fuel and wear and tear on her vehicle. She also gets
tips.[neWLine]

“”On a really good day (Sunday) when the Jaguars are playing,
she can make 100 in tips. She will drive over 100 miles to make
that. On a regular day, perhaps only 15 and still drive 100
miles.[neWLine]

“”She drives a new car so that she isn’t ‘broken down
somewhere.’ It doesn’t take long to wear out a vehicle doing
delivery work.[neWLine]

“”One item that we just found out about is that the insurance
companies will not insure a pizza delivery driver and we can thank
Domino’s for that with their ’30 minutes or less’
campaign.[neWLine]

“”Most drivers are teen-agers and are not aware that if they
have an accident they probably will not be covered![neWLine]

“”I have had insurance with State Farm for the past 17 years
with no claims except for towing and labor. We were informed that
if my wife continues to deliver pizzas that State Farm will cancel
our coverage on all vehicles.[neWLine]

“”I am a courier delivering medical supplies and am required to
carry minimum 300,000 liability and 1 million in liability for
product loss.[neWLine]

“”In searching for commercial coverage we found that the only
company that will insure my wife is Progressive for 1,747 a year.
Currently we are paying 760 or roughly 150 a month for coverage.
Big difference.””
