Lindsay Sherman found the net on a corner kick and Meagan Little
also scored to lead Bradford to a 2-0 win over Punxsutawney
Thursday in high school girls soccer.
Sherman had an assist on Little’s goal, and Whitney Cline
assisted on Sherman’s goal.
Chelsea Rinfrette and Chelsey Colosimo shared goal-tending
duties for Bradford’s shutout.
“The recent rains made the field look like bayou country, and it
changed the way we had to play,” said Tony Doriguzzi, Lady Owls
coach. “To make matters worse, Punxsy packed most of its players
into the 18-yard box to defend against us.
“It took a lot of tenacity on our part to score those two goals.
We played a good game of possession, and that isn’t easy to do with
field conditions like that.
“Our defenders did a great job of denying Punxsy’s attack,”
Doriguzzi added. “Fullback Katie Vecellio looked like she was just
skipping through the swampland, while the Punxsy players were
getting bogged down.
“Lindsay Sherman’s goal and assist came from a lot of effort on
her part. She was sprinting to the ball anytime it came near her
for the whole 80 minutes.”
Hanna Fugate was in goal for the Lady Chucks with 18 saves.
The Lady Owls, now 10-2-1 on the season, will travel to St.
Marys Monday. Game time has been changed to 6 p.m.
