Bradford Area High School will celebrate homecoming today, with
a parade kicking off down Main Street at 5 p.m.
Main Street will be closed off to traffic during the parade.
Meanwhile, Principal Ken Coffman is asking for the public’s
support as the school gears up for the homecoming game against
Brookville, which begins at 7 p.m. at Parkway Field.
In a press release issued to The Era, Coffman said officials are
asking for assistance at the three remaining home football
games.
Coffman said officials are concerned about the large number of
students and fans that are creating congestion along the
ramp/walkway area between the main bleachers and the restrooms.
Many people have commented that it’s difficult to get through
the crowded walkway either walking to or returning from the
restrooms, according to Coffman. School officials are asking those
in attendance at the games to not congregate in that area and that
parents with younger students assist in supervision.
“We are always concerned about the safety and comfort of our
fans,” Coffman said. “We want all of the fans to have an enjoyable
experience while attending events at Bradford Area High
School.”
In addition, Coffman said there has also been concern about the
use of inappropriate language by some of the younger students and
fans.
“We want to maintain a family atmosphere at our events,” Coffman
said. “Many parents attend with their children and they enjoy
cheering for the Owls together. We are proud of our students, their
accomplishments and our facilities and we want the entire community
to be proud as well.”
Coffman said the inappropriate language and behavior takes away
from the positive environment school officials are promoting. He
added the improvements made to the track area have eliminated some
of the space formerly used by students and fans to congregate.
“Our fans need to be respectful of each other and of the limited
space that we now have available to them,” Coffman said.
The remaining Owls home games in addition to Brookville are as
follows: Oct. 13 against Central Mountain and Oct. 20 against
DuBois, which is senior night.
In addition to the parade and game, a homecoming king and queen
will also be crowned during tonight’s festivities.
