COUDERSPORT – Coudersport pushed its unbeaten record to 5-0 with
a 28-7 victory over Port Allegany in AML football action Friday
night.
The Falcons are the 10th-ranked team in PIAA Class A according
to the Harrisburg Patriot poll.
Neither team could crack the scoreboard until the second quarter
when Coudy’s Adam Foust found paydirt on a 15-yard scamper to
finish off a brief, two-play, 20-yard drive. The PAT pass attempt
failed.
Coudy’s Chris Cavallari made it 12-0 when he hauled in a 31-yard
strike from QB Boomer Wetzel. Wetzel then found Hathaway on the PAT
and it was 14-0.
The Falcon defense got in on the act to close out the first half
scoring as Dirk Cowburn picked off a Port pass and took it back 40
yards for six. The PAT pass failed and Coudy led 20-0 at the
half.
Port Allegany’s only score came in the third quarter when Chad
Saltsman punched it in from three yards out. Saltsman split the
uprights for a 20-7 score.
Then in the fourth Wetzel hooked up with the junior Foust on an
18-yard aerial, capping a five-play 56-yard drive. Cavallari
carried it in for two and the final 28-7 victory.
“Port played tough,” admitted Paul Simcoe, Coudy coach. “We were
able to make some big plays and get some points on the board.
“If you look at the stats they’re pretty even, so it was a tough
game.”
Drew Levavasseur and Kirk Duffee dominated defensively,
collecting nine tackles apiece.
Coudersport will look to pick up another victory when they
travel to Sheffield on Oct. 7 for an AML tilt with the
Wolverines.
