KANE – Bradford High coach Judy Abbey knew her team needed to
play smart volleyball to beat Kane on Tuesday night.
And her Lady Owls did just that, earning a 23-25, 25-18, 16-25,
25-18, 15-12 win over the Lady Wolves.
Leading Bradford (5-4) were Caitlin Persichini (3 digs, 18
assists, 10 points, 2 kills), Rachel Garges (6 digs, 7 aces, 13
points, 5 kills), Lexie Goble (7 digs, 7 kills), Nicole Keane (7
digs), Bobbi Hopkins (5 points, 8 kills), Michele Keane (6 digs, 10
points) and Sarah Langy (5 digs, 2 aces, 12 points).
“Kane is a very scrappy team,” Abbey commented. “They have good
passers and are a good fundamental team. Kane has always been a
quality team in the area. My seniors were excited to beat them.
“The match could have gone either way. We played a good first
game and never let down.
“It was a team effort. We played a high-intensity match. We
played smart volleyball. There were some long volleys back and
forth.”
Abbey was impressed with Garges, who was celebrating a birthday
Tuesday.
“We had great play from Rachel Garges,” Abbey declared. “She
played a good floor play.”
Abbey noted Persichini was playing sick, “but played with good
intensity.”
The Lady Owls also had solid performances from the Keane sisters
and Langy.
“Michele continues to step up every game,” Abbey admitted. “She
did an excellent job serving. She has real good floor sense for a
freshman.
“Nicole played a great back line tonight. Sarah Langy played her
best game of the season. She was great at the net and played good
in the back line.”
Abbey also pointed out assistant coach Nikki Lohrman “helped us
a lot tonight.”
In JV action, Kane beat Bradford 25-15, 25-13.
