ST. MARYS – Bradford High swept the first five spots and the
Lady Owls rolled over St. Marys 15-46 to remain unbeaten in girls
cross country racing Tuesday.
Paige Ambrose, Renee Cavallaro and Erica Pascarella shared first
place in personal best times of 20:43 (for all three girls) for the
perfect Lady Owls (6-0).
“All three of these girls rebounded well this week,” said Bob
Macfarlane, Owls coach. “They were determined to do well and show
they are the top runners in the district. They had their best
grouping of miles in this race.”
Rounding out the top five for Bradford were Liz Keller (21:07)
and Marissa Buchheit (21:19).
“Both these girls also had their best times of the year,”
Macfarlane pointed out. “These two girls run with a lot of heart
and are improving with every meet. It’s really nice to see their
hard work paying off.”
Lady Dutch Hailly Cunningham (21:30) and Katy Thaker (22:25)
grabbed the sixth and seventh spots, but Bradford netted the next
three with Megan Prosser (22:39), Brittni Wiseman (22:58) and Megan
Foster (23:03) running their best times of the season.
“These three runners are steadily improving and learning the
ropes of running a cross country meet and with more confidence they
will be a force in the future.”
Shannon Taylor ran the course in 25:49 and Kara Piganelli
completed the 3.1-mile course in 26:51.
“Right now the girls are working very hard to improve their
times,” Macfarlane explained. “Their workouts are geared toward the
district meet and they are staying very focused on their goals.
“As a coach I can’t be any more pleased with their desire and
attitude.”
In middle school racing, Fretz stayed perfect at 5-0 with a
19-36 triumph over the hosts.
Fretz’s Lauren Bauschard (13:07), Lisa Lau (13:24) and Alexandra
Szczupak (14:05) finished first through third, while Kaitlin Barton
(15:21) and Brigid Colligan (17:09) were sixth and seventh.
The Lady Owls will toe the line again Saturday at the McQuaid
Invitational in Rochester, N.Y. Bradford will run against 19 other
teams (250 runners).
