Bradford boys claim sixth straight victory

ST. MARYS – Bradford High defeated St. Marys 22-39 to notch its
sixth straight win in boys cross country action Tuesday.

St. Marys’ Ben Huey won the race in a time of 16:25, but it
wasn’t enough to overcome the Owls’ packing consistency.

Colton Langianese, Owl Runner of the Meet, paced BHS with a
second-place finish in a season-best time of 16:54 over the
3.1-mile course. Jared Feura captured third in 17:00.

“These times were very good,” declared Owls coach Tom
Tessena.

Freshman Matthew White took fourth with a time of 17:09, while
Dutchman Cody Foster squeaked through in fifth in 17:17.

“Matthew had an outstanding run last Saturday (Bradford
Invitational) and he ran just as well today,” Tessena praised.
“Cody is a freshman as well, so I can envision quite a rivalry
between him and Matthew for the next four years.”

Bradford preserved its perfect dual meet mark by taking the next
eight places – Mike Foerstner (sixth 17:32), Shroy Mukerjee
(seventh, 17:50, Most Improved Owl), Michael White (eighth, 18:00),
Adam Barnes (ninth, 18:14, season best), Rich Bartlebaugh (10th,
18:45), Corey Little (11th, 19:08), Evan Feura (12th, 19:15) and
John Karrasch (13th, 19:40).

“This was Mike’s (Foerstner) best race of the year. He is
finally getting healthy just when we need him to be strong,”
Tessena explained. “Shroy has also been less than 100 percent, so
it was good to see him get back on track and Rich is battling a bad
cold and he really pushed himself today.

“Michael had a strong race Saturday and came back with another
good one today. Adam is getting better each race and he is
developing a pretty good sense of pace.

“John was bothered by a knee problem but still managed to run
pretty well,” Tessena concluded.

The middle school meet saw St. Marys trim Fretz 27-28 as
Dutchman Justin Huey claimed the two-mile race in 11:57.

Zach Acton led Fretz in second in 12:20, while St. Marys’ Phil
Ponzer was third.

Falcons Jamie Karrasch (14:14) and Alex Fair (14:21) earned
fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Also running for Fretz were Anthony Graves (14:54, 8th) and
Tyler Carlson (15:22, 9th).

The Owls are back in action Saturday in Rochester, N.Y., at the
McQuaid Invitational.

“It will be the biggest meet so far this year,” Tessena
prophesied. “We will be tested and it will give us a chance to see
how we stack up against a bunch of strong teams from New York, Ohio
and Canada.”
