Owls win invitational

Jared Feura and Matthew White paced Bradford with a third- and
fourth-place finish as the Owls won the third annual Bradford Cross
Country Invitational on Saturday.

“Jared (17:38) ran a strong race but Matthew (17:45.3) was
unbelievable,” BAHS coach Tom Tessena said. “Matthew surpassed his
best time on the course by 20 seconds when everyone else was slower
by 30 seconds or more.”

Chris Bogenschutz of Otto-Eldred won the race, leading from
start to finish (17:09). Elk County Catholic’s Tyler Prokop was
second, just eight seconds off the pace.

Oswayo Valley’s Orion Bernard was fifth and Kyle Harvey
sixth.

Colton Langianese of Bradford was seventh in 17:58. Cody Luchs
of Ridgway took eighth in 18:00, Alex Brazinski of Elk County
Catholic was ninth in 18:09 and Derek Konen of Ridgway finished
10th in 18:17.

MIchael White of Bradford took 11th in a personal best of 18:21.
Andy Gaieski of Otto-Eldred was 12th in 18:30, Bradford’s Rich
Bartlebaugh was 13th in 18:36, Kris Heidrick of Allegany-LImestone
took 14th in 18:40 and Mike Foerstner of Bradford was 15th in
18:42.ð

“We didn’t run as fast as we did on Tuesday – except for Matthew
and Michael,” Tessena said. “The conditions were not as good. Our
time spread from the first to the fifth runner was 58 seconds. We
need to get that down to 30 seconds.

“Today we started off OK but some of the guys fell back on the
second mile. It’s an area where we need to improve upon if we are
going to run better times. All in all it was a successful varsity
race.”

Bradford also won the JV race for the third straight year. Adam
Barnes led an almost perfect JV squad to a team total of 16 points.
OV was second (45) and ECCHS third (73).

Barnes took first (19:03). Bradford’s Evan Feura finished second
in 19:20, a personal best time. Bradford took 3rd and 4th place
with Patrick Perschke in 19:37 and John Karrasch in 19:44.

Jon Cleveland of Oswayo Valley broke up the Owls with a fifth
place finish in 19:52, but Bradford’s Corey Little grabbed the 6th
place medal with a time of 20:30. Erich Quinn of OV was 7th in
20:43. Brandon Johnson and Michael Pearsall of ECC were 8th and 9th
in 20:43 and 21:26 while Christopher Sebastian of OV was 10th in
21:39.ð

In the 7th and 8th grade meet, Kane ended Bradford’s domination
with a 51-point total. Bradford was second with 70 points and ECC
third with 81.

Bradford’s Zach Acton was the individual winner in a time of
10:00.

“This was the eighth fastest time ever run on this course so he
did a great job under wet, sloppy conditions,” Tessena noted.

Northern Potter took the next three places with Steven Kibbe,
Jeremy Adams and Andrew Jeffers in 10:06, 10:13 and 10:26. Kane’s
Martin Ross took fifth in 10:26.

“All these guys made the top 25 time list and they did it on a
course that was chewed up by four previous races,” Tessena pointed
out.

Rounding out the top 10 medal winners were Trevor Howard of OV
in 6th place 10:33, Caleb Lecker of ECC in 7th at 10:56, Bradford’s
Alex Fair was 8th in 11:00, Frank DeLung of Coudersport came in 9th
in 11:05 and Tyler Laurie of Kane was 10th in 11:13. Kane took the
next three places with Peter Sirianni, Brandon Kawatch and Jack
Wolfe.

Also running for Bradford were Jamie Karrasch, 16th in 11:28,
Tyler Carlson, 22nd in 12:05, and Anthony Graves, 23rd in
12:06.

The Owl runner of the Meet was Matthew White and the Most
Improved Owl went to Evan Feura.
