Round the Square for September 5

MORE FLAGS: Amy writes, “”In regards to Saturday’s (Aug. 26)
article titled ‘locals show patriotism by displaying flags,’ I’m
curious to know if anyone looked into who and why the flags were
placed on telephone poles near the Model T in Derrick
City.””[neWLine]

“”I haven’t been by in a while but had commented several times
about how nice they looked and wondered if Jason (owner of the
Model T) was doing it for a specific reason.[neWLine]

“”We all need a little more patriotism in the world and I
commend all who are helping it!””[neWLine]

50th REUNION: Larry Vecellio writes us, “”It was 48 years ago
that the members of the St. Bernard football team started their
practicing for an unbeaten season going 9-0 with only 18 points
scored upon them.””[neWLine]

“”We were then scattered throughout the U.S. and now we are
coming to the 50th year for that accomplishment.[neWLine]

“”We are trying to contact as many as we can to come back to
Bradford in 2008 or 2009. (The year) 2009 will be our 50th reunion
and have a dual reason that year – to have our reunion for that
special feat.[neWLine]

“”If anyone in or out of the area or those who read this and was
on the team or anything to do with that season, please contact me
in Gainesville, Ga., and we can get a head start on this
occasion.””[neWLine]

He can be reached at lvecellio@bellsouth.net[neWLine]

JOHN CALLAHAN: The name is familiar to hundreds of Bradford kids
who have used Callahan Park over the years.[neWLine]

Tom Conneely writes, “”I am trying to locate the years of birth
and death for the late John Callahan who served Bradford as a City
Council member and then served as a McKean County Commissioner in
the 1940s and early ’50s. Callahan Park is named for
him.””[neWLine]

“”He died in an auto accident at Tack’s Corner on a Sunday in
the late ’40s or early ’50s. The St. Bernard burial records are
ambiguous.[neWLine]

“”My reason for wanting this information is that I would like to
purchase a grave marker because it appears one was never placed on
his grave, something my father, late Council Member/Water Authority
Chair Thomas A. Conneely always intended to do. Thanks for any
help.””[neWLine]

He is at tfc@conneely.com
