Students in the Bradford Area School District made Adequate
Yearly Progress (AYP) in the 2005-06 school session and school
officials are excited and proud of that accomplishment.
Katy Pude, assistant superintendent, explained this week that
the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires school districts that
receive federal funding to meet certain targets set up by the
Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Those target areas include attendance and graduation rate,
participation rate and performance on the Pennsylvania System of
Assessment in math and reading.
“We really are excited,” said Pude. “The kids worked so hard on
this.”
She explained that this score requires a lot of cooperation from
the students, parents and teachers and added they all did a great
job.
The required goal for attendance in the district called for a 90
percent success rating.
School Street Elementary School scored 96 percent and Floyd C.
Fretz Middle School scored 95 percent. Total attendance rate for
the schools is 95 percent.
The target graduation for the district is set at 80 percent and
Bradford Area High School reached an 87 percent rating.
The threshold for the participation rate is 95 percent for the
total tested population of students and for all subgroups with at
least 40 students involved.
Subgroups include Individual Education Plan (IEP) and
economically disadvantaged students.
Math participation for all students at School Street Elementary
was scored at 100 percent; Floyd C. Fretz Middle School students
achieved a 100 percent; and Bradford Area High School rated 99
percent.
Reading participation for all students at School Street
Elementary was scored at 100 percent; at Floyd C. Fretz Middle
School 99 percent; and at the Bradford Area High School 99
percent.
The performance math assessment required is 45 percent
proficient in math for the total tested population and for all of
the subgroups with at least 40 students.
School Street Elementary third and fourth grade students
achieved 72.3 percent. That number reflects all students including
IEP and economically disadvantaged students.
Floyd C. Fretz Middle School eighth grade students achieved a
rating of 68 percent. This rate includes students who are
economically disadvantaged.
Bradford Area High School juniors achieved 45 percent rating
with a subgroup of economically disadvantaged students.
The performance reading assessment target is 54 percent
proficient in reading for the total population and for all
subgroups with at least 40 students.
Students at School Street Elementary reached a rating of 63
percent including subgroups of IEP and economically disadvantaged
students.
Floyd C. Fretz students reached a rating of 69 percent. This
group included a subgroup of economically disadvantaged
students.
Bradford Area High School students achieved a 56 percent rating,
which included a subgroup of economically disadvantaged
students.
Writing performance assessment achieved by fifth grade students
at School Street Elementary includes a rating of 58 percent
proficient; for Fretz Middle School students in eighth grade, 42
percent proficient; and for Bradford Area High School junior
students, a 78 percent proficient.
The threshold of proficiency for writing performance has not
been established yet.
