Lady Owls netters ready for season opener Aug. 29

The Bradford High girls’ tennis team will start the season 10
strong, with five returning letterwinners to lead the way for the
younger players.

Seniors Tiffany Cline, Sara Egar and Kate Cohen are all
returning letterwomen.

“I think one plus to the team is the strong leadership of Kate,
Sara and Tiffany,” said Bradford coach Sue Aljoe. “All three are
generous in sharing what they know with the other players and work
very hard on their own as well.”

Juniors Katrina Vecellio and Leslie Shallop are also
letterwinners who will play again this fall.

Rounding out the team this year are junior Shay Wilson,
sophomore Rachel Foote and freshmen Kathryn Kornacki, Michelle
Cline and Hilary Digel.

“The team has a desire to get better and improve as the season
goes on,” Aljoe commented. “We don’t have a lot of singles
experience, since we lost three of the five singles players last
year through graduation. However, the girls have been working hard
all summer in an effort to be competitive at singles as the season
starts.”

The Lady Owls begin their season at Elk County Catholic on Aug.
29.

“We start off the season with probably the toughest team in
D-9,” Aljoe stated. “ECC always has an amazing program and they are
tough to beat.

“On one hand it is difficult to start out against them, however,
on the other hand it will be good to know how far we have to go to
improve.”

According to Aljoe, the Lady Owls face the season with the
strategy of improving with each match and aim to just enjoy the
game of tennis.
