BATAVIA, N.Y. – Fugitive Ralph “Bucky” Phillips narrowly eluded
the New York State Police once again Saturday night on Route 60
near Cassadaga.
According to Batavia-based state police, about 6:30 p.m., a
trooper working on Route 60 spotted a motorcycle traveling north
that did not have a valid New York State inspection sticker
visible. The trooper initiated a traffic stop, at which point the
driver abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot to a residence at
6707, Route 60.
Police descended on the residence and questioned the trio living
there. Through their interviews, police determined the person
driving the motorcycle was Phillips, 44.
It was discovered through that investigation that Phillips had
been living at the residence since Wednesday, and that he fled
through a window when officers arrived at the scene some time after
the traffic stop.
The trio was taken into custody and each person – Timothy
Seekings, 49, Alice Kelley, 44, and Natasha Berg, 24 -ðwas charged
with hindering prosecution, a class D felony. Additional charges
are pending.
All three were arraigned in the Town of Charlotte Court and
remanded to Chautauqua County Jail. No bail had been set as of
Sunday.
Phillips has been eluding police since he escaped from a
correctional facility in Alden on April 2. In addition to being
sought as a fugitive, police want to question Phillip relative to
the shooting and wounding of a New York State trooper on June 10 in
the Town of Veteran.
Reports indicate Phillips has left a trail of stolen vehicles
and firearms and burglarized residences and camps since he escaped
from prison. Police are offering a $50,000 reward for information
leading to Phillips’ capture and arrest.
Described as an American Indian, standing 6 feet tall and
weighing 200 to 240 pounds, Phillips is considered by police to be
“armed and dangerous.”
