Lieutenant governor hopeful Jim Matthews will make his way to
the McKean County Fair in East Smethport today for an
appearance.
Matthews, who is the running mate of Republican gubernatorial
candidate and former Pittsburgh Steeler Lynn Swann, will visit the
fair around 8:15 p.m.
There was no immediate word on whether Matthews would be
offering remarks during his stop. However, Matthews will reportedly
introduce the country music act Little Big Town, which is appearing
at the fair.
Both Matthews and Swann have been touring the state outlining
their policy proposals.
Swann has made a handful of appearances across the region; the
latest on Aug. 11 in Bradford, where he visited Zippo Manufacturing
Co. and the adjacent Visitors Center. He’s also made stops in
Coudersport and Ridgway.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy and president of Keegan Mortgage
Corp., Matthews has been elected twice to serve as a Montgomery
County commissioner.
Matthews is not the first politician or challenger to visit the
region this year. U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., state Treasurer
Bob Casey Jr. and Gov. Ed Rendell have all made campaign stops
leading up to the November general election.
