Investigation into fire on Kennedy Street changes hands

The investigation into the fire at the top of Kennedy Street in
the early morning hours of Aug. 10 has changed hands.

Ridgway-based fire marshal Trooper Greg Agosti told The Era this
week the investigation has been turned over to Cpl. Martin Henneman
of the Kane-based state police.

Agosti did not give a reason for the change, and was not
immediately available Thursday night.

The most recent published reports on the fire investigation
indicate the process is being hampered by the emergency demolition
of the four houses -ð170, 166, 174 and 176 Kennedy St. -ðdestroyed
by fire that morning.

Bradford City Fire Chief Bill McCormack and Department of Health
official George Corignani ordered the demolition of the houses
almost immediately after the fire, citing safety issues.

McCormack has said the fire started at 170 Kennedy St., a vacant
house with no utility service for several months prior to the fire.
The fire spread to the other three houses rapidly, destroying them
all.

No one was injured, but 11 people were left homeless. Local
agencies, businesses and individuals have been coming out of the
woodwork to assist the families.

Those interested in donating money, food, clothes or other items
can contact the American Red Cross or Salvation Army. A savings
account for the victims has been set up at Northwest Savings Bank
under the Kennedy Street Fire Relief Fund. The account will be open
through the end of September and then distributed evenly to the
families.
