The Bradford High boys’ golf team is ready for action and feels
prepared for the season as the Owls will be led by several
returning lettermen.
“We have some experience coming back with nine returning
letterwinners,” said coach Terry Reiley. “All nine players are
capable of shooting high 30s or low 40s, which gives us some depth
compared to other teams we play.”
Senior captain Drew Kapp is among the returners along with
seniors C.J. Mackey and Pat Runyan. Junior lettermen are Bryan
Hannon, Dan Gonzalez and Ryan LaBrozzi. Sophomore lettermen are
Drew Kelley, Ken Konwinski and Christian Holzworth.
Rounding out the team are Justin Alexander, Dan Astor, Tyler
Auteri, Brandon Bartlett, Gage Bunker, Justin Conklin, Matt Covert,
Jake Everson, Brenton Goldthweit, Brandon Hallock, Tim Hulings,
Brady Karolak, Josh Kayle, Nate Kline, Joshua Lightner, Chris
Mackey, Cody Matzner, Jacob McMurtrie, Garrett Newhouse, Brett
Pais, Dave Rhodes, Alex Frombach, Christopher Reiley, Josh Rychcik,
Alan Soto, Tyler Peine and Zach Tsepelis.
The strong competition this year is Elk County Catholic, which
won the title last year and enters this season with the same size
team Bradford is bringing to the course.
Matches for the Owls will consist of eight players golfing, with
the five best scores used.
Due to the high number of players this year, the Owls will play
four JV matches in addition to their regular varsity schedule, two
home and two away, against Elk County Catholic and St. Marys. That
will give all team members an opportunity to play.
“We have a good team going in and will improve as the season
progresses,” said Reiley.
Two volunteer assistant coaches were brought in to assist with
the number of players on this year’s roster. Bob Mellon, the
professional golf pro at the Pennhills Club, and Mick Marshall have
both agreed to devote time to the team.
Reiley also noted the team would not be able to entertain the
number of players it does without the help and generosity of both
Pennhills and Pine Acres Country Club. Both courses are very
accommodating for all the boys playing for BHS.
The Owls will open their season Monday as they travel to
DuBois.
