Round the Square for Aug. 14

NOT SO: If you’ve seen or heard those reports that Mars is going
to soon appear in the nighttime sky to be roughly the same size as
the moon – don’t believe it. Dumb us fell for that one time a few
years ago.[neWLine]

The “”urban legend”” obviously makes the round every few years.
If you just think about it, you realize that it would be absolutely
impossible for the planet to suddenly become so large or so close.
Normally, Mars is just a tiny red dot in the sky. While it does get
brighter this time of year, “”brighter”” is a relative term. And
when it comes to astronomy, even a lot of brightness doesn’t mean
much from the earth.[neWLine]

SEE IT: You’ve probably driven by the oil museum in Custer City
a thousand times. When do you plan on stopping in?[neWLine]

Sometimes we take for granted an unusual offering in our own
backyard.[neWLine]

But don’t take our word for it. Here’s a letter from Mr. and
Mrs. Dale Fuller:[neWLine]

“”Recently we had visits from our grandchildren and for
something to do we took our 14-year-old granddaughter to the
Penn-Brad Historical Oil Well and Museum in Custer City for the
tour.[neWLine]

“”She has three great-grandfathers who worked in the oil fields
so we thought it would be good for her to learn something of the
oil business. Have to say it was the best experience for all of
us.[neWLine]

“”Sherrie Schulze, curator of the museum, gave a marvelous 1 1/2
hour tour complete with lots of explanations and stories. It is
great for visitors to our area but something that every person –
young and old – who live in and around Bradford should
do.[neWLine]

“”You learn things not only about the oil business but about our
city of Bradford. It’s so interesting the time goes by
quickly.[neWLine]

“”The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 to 5; and on
Sunday, 15. Cost for the tour is $5 but is well worth every cent.
Their only income for running the museum comes from admissions,
sale of souvenirs and donations. Please consider visiting real soon
– you won’t be disappointed.””
