ZIPPO NOTES: That AP story about Zippo is sure making the rounds
– even on the other side of the world.[neWLine]
Pfc. Michael Johnson writes us from Camp Casey, South Korea,
“”I’ve got a Zippo sighting from South Korea. I recently bought an
issue of the Stars and Stripes newspaper published in
Japan.””[neWLine]
“”The paper lets us know what’s going on around the states –
local events etc., etc. I got around to page 4 and, lo and behold,
there is a picture of the Zippo car at the swap meet.[neWLine]
“”I’ve got to say it blew my mind to see something from back
home in this little military paper. Needless to say I carried it
around showing everyone I knew. I don’t think they cared as much as
me, though.[neWLine]
“”Moral of this story is that this tiny picture more than 7,000
miles away really brightened my day.[neWLine]
“”As a former Case employee, I’ve got to say I missed going to
the swap meet and all the other local activities the area has to
offer. I’d also like to say ‘hello’ to all the yahoos working out
at Case. I’ll see you next year.””[neWLine]

THAT ID: Jean Gould Cameron writes us a thank you for the quick
response to her question about a man pictured with Zippo founder
George G. Blaisdell in an article in Portraits magazine – she had
thought it might be her dad, Carroll J. Gould.[neWLine]
Thanks, not to us but to the people who identified the man as Al
Smart Johnston.[neWLine]
Jean writes, “”I knew where the picture was taken but I was
thinking Emery Hardware.””[neWLine]
She adds, “”Now for the rest of my story. … A friend of my
sister Martha sent her an e-mail stating they had recently
remodeled the kitchen in their home in Bradford and when they tore
out the old cupboards they found ‘C.J. Gould/1959’ written on the
wall![neWLine]
“”My dad did a lot of remodeling in those days and apparently
left his signature all over Bradford!””[neWLine]
[neWLine]
FINALLY: Barney and Pat Elletson write, “” … read the Zippo
article in a Michigan newspaper. We had to move back here for
health reasons. Sure miss our friends and living in Bradford. No
humming birds in this area to feed.””
