SMETHPORT – A man suffered leg injuries after being hit by a
falling tree at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Norwich Township near the
Union Church of Colegrove.
According to Norwich Township Volunteer Fire Chief Roy Corbett,
a man only identified by a last name of Kelly, was feeding his dogs
with three other people at the scene when he happened to hear a
crack like the sound of a tree breaking.
Kelly turned around, and the tree hit him, according to Corbett,
who didn’t know Kelly’s first name.
Corbett said Kelly injured his right hip and possibly his femur.
Priority Care Ambulance transported Kelly to a landing zone that
the Norwich Township Volunteer Fire Department set up across the
road from the firehall in Crosby. Kelly was then transported by
Stat MedEvac helicopter to an unknown hospital.
No information was available on Kelly’s condition, but Corbett
said the situation turned out well and Kelly was taken by the
helicopter before the big storm passed through the area.
