ROAD WORK: We’re not assigning any blame but have to wonder who
is in charge of maintaining an alternative route between Marshburg
and Bradford while work on the Bradford Bypass
continues.[neWLine]
The route in question starts on Route 770 near the summit of
Marshburg Hill, traverses Songbird Road, Niles Hollow and West
Corydon Street to downtown Bradford.[neWLine]
Not only is much of the narrow roadway a patchwork of rough
asphalt but there are virtually no lines in the middle or at the
sides. Making driving even more dangerous are tall weeds and grass
at the perimeters of the road. God forbid a child or animal would
dart onto the highway.[neWLine]
Granted, much of this is a secondary road and perhaps doesn’t
get the attention of a primary route. However, one might think the
powers-that-be could have drawn the logical conclusion that this
would be a handy shortcut while work continues on the Bypass
project and, thus, prepared it for heavier traffic.[neWLine]
Apparently not.[neWLine]

KIND ACT: Remember those “”random acts of kindness””? A reader
suggested a good one: When you see those highway construction
workers toiling in the extreme heat we’ve had, how about passing
along a nice cold drink to one of them?[neWLine]

FERRET X-ING: A couple weeks ago, traffic reportedly was backed
up on Jackson Avenue because a ferret had gotten loose, and its
owner was trying to catch the wily creature.[neWLine]
Traffic’s not bad enough in Bradford with all the various
construction projects that people have to wait for a ferret rescue?
No offense to the ferret but we can imagine the backed-up motorists
were swearing a blue streak.[neWLine]

A QUESTION: As long as we’re on the subject of road construction
and the like, we have a question we’d like to pose. On our drive to
work on Route 219 at Custer City, a southbound school bus was
stopped with red lights flashing to deposit a load of young people
at the nearby Beacon Light school. After discharging the
passengers, the bus pulled down 219 about 50 feet and into the
school parking lot. So our question: Why in the world would the bus
let the kids out on the highway when they could have gotten off the
bus in the parking lot?[neWLine]
Maybe we were seeing things?
