Applications for antlerless deer coupons available

WARREN – Forest Supervisor Kathleen Morse announced Wednesday
that the Pennsylvania Game Commission has approved a Deer
Management Assistance Program (DMAP) for the Allegheny National
Forest for the 2006 hunting season.

This program provides hunters the opportunity to help manage the
health of the deer herd on the ANF. The number of coupons has been
substantially reduced from past years, but the demand remains
high.

The ANF has three DMAP units within is boundary, KQDC North
(#134), KQDC South (#135) and Zone A (#148). The ANF will accept
applications for Zone A, DMAP Unit #148.

The applications need to be sent to the ANF (online, mail, fax,
or hand-delivered). Applications will not be accepted that are post
marked, e-mailed or faxed before Aug. 1. The online application
will be posted the morning of Aug. 1 at
http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/allegheny. Hunters are strongly
encouraged to submit applications online.

Applications for coupons for DMAP Unit #135, KQDC South, are
being handled by Forest Investment Associates. Contact Delores
Gerner at P.O. Box 1474, 312 W. Main St., Smethport, Pa., 16749, or
by phone at 887-5238.

Applications for coupons for DMAP Unit #134, KQDC North, are
being handled by Kane Hardwoods/Collins Pine. Contact Michael
Hancharick at P.O. Box 807, Kane, Pa., 16735, or by phone at
837-6941.

The Allegheny staff provided paper applications for the coupons
for DMAP area #148 to the businesses listed below for distribution
July 24. Applications will not be accepted that are faxed,
postmarked or e-mailed prior to Aug. 1.

Elk County

Young – Russell City Store; St. Marys – Elk County Ammo & Arms,
Smith’s Sports Store and Wal-Mart

McKean County

Bradford – S&S Archery, Wal-Mart; Eldred – Dave’s Gun Shop;
Kane – Allegheny Crossroads, Archer’s News and Sporting Goods and
Allegheny Outdoors and Buyer’s Fair; Lewis Run – Tex’s Gun Shop;
Marshburg – Bradford Ranger District of the ANF; Port Allegany –
Knell’s Sport Shop; Smethport – Costa’s True-Value Hardware,
Garry’s Gun and Tackle and McKean County Treasurer
