COUDERSPORT – Roulette woman Daisy May Post, 26, was sentenced
to 30 days in jail earlier this month for endangering the welfare
of her infant son.
Reports indicate Post pleaded guilty to the third-degree
felony.
Charges were filed against Post and her husband, John Wesley
Post, 28, last August after the couple brought their son, then
6-months old, to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital with multiple
severe injuries, police said.
The baby was immediately taken by emergency helicopter to
Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Doctors there determined the
baby had a fractured left leg, a fractured right arm, a healing
skull fracture, five subdural hematomas, multiple face
contusions/bruises and a hematoma on his liver.
John Post, who is currently incarcerated at Potter County Prison
on $150,000 bail, has been charged with causing the injuries,
records indicate. Charges against him include aggravated assault, a
first-degree felony; endangering the welfare of a child, a
third-degree felony; simple assault, a first-degree misdemeanor;
and reckless endangerment, a second-degree misdemeanor.
It was not clear Sunday where John Post’s criminal case
stands.
Daisy Post’s attorney, Tom Walrath of Wellsboro, reportedly told
Potter County Judge John Leete his client was not present when the
child was injured, and that she was herself a victim of domestic
violence at her husband’s hands.
“She didn’t have the mental ability to get out,” Walrath told
Leete.
Leete said during the court proceedings that the child is alive
and well. The Posts apparently have other children, though it was
unclear Sunday how many or how old they are.
When handing down his sentence, Leete also instructed the county
probation department to see that Daisy Post receives counseling in
addition to the medication she currently takes.
Potter County District Attorney Dawn Fink was not immediately
available Sunday night for further information on either Post’s
case.
