Both Main and Elm streets will be closed to traffic for periods
of time next week, as the $55.4 million U.S. Route 219 Bradford
Bypass project continues.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials noted,
however, detours for traffic at the streets won’t be active at the
same time.
Officials said demolition work will also continue on the Mill
Street bridge, while pile driving will occur at two other
spans.
The two largest hotspots for the project will be Main and Elm
streets.
Main Street will be closed in the area of the bridge later in
the week for new structure work, according to PennDOT officials.
During that time, the street will be closed during working hours –
normally from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A short-term detour will be in
effect in that area, and traffic should follow the detour.
Meanwhile, pile driving at the Elm Street bridge will
continue.
During that period, Elm Street will be closed in the vicinity of
the bridge during work hours for the first part of the week. A
similar detour as Main Street will also be in effect for Elm, and
traffic should follow the signs.
Officials said pile driving will also continue in the southbound
lanes of the Forman Street bridge.
Down the highway at Mill Street, work on the footer for the
temporary pier for the bridge will continue; the street will
continue to be closed.
Other work will include the replacement of a sanitary sewer line
on Main Street and excavation work in the southbound lanes of the
bypass.
Motorists are advised to watch for slow moving and stopped
vehicles through the entire work zone.
During next week’s work, the following ramps will be closed:
southbound off ramp at Forman Street and all southbound on and off
ramps at Kendall and Seaward avenues. Meanwhile, the following
ramps will remain open: all northbound and southbound ramps at
Owens Way; northbound off ramp at Elm Street; southbound on ramp at
Elm Street; northbound on ramp at Forman Street; northbound on and
off ramps at Kendall Avenue; and all ramps at Bolivar Drive.
Traffic will be in that configuration until further notice.
