WILD SIDE: Karen Getz of Lewis Run writes, “”My sister Kris and
I were traveling to Smethport on June 5, 2006, about 5 p.m., and
just this side of the entrance to Bradford Airport we spotted a
bobcat in the road. There was a car coming from the other
direction, slowed down and saw it, too. He didn’t seem afraid and
certainly didn’t move in a hurry.””[neWLine]

SNOW TIME: Nancy Houser Kania writes, “”Just finished reading
the comments made by Jim Flynn’s parents about what kind of place
they moved to that had snow on Memorial Day. That brought back a
memory of when I was in college and had a ‘boyfriend’ drive up to
Bradford from outside Harrisburg. It was also Memorial Day
weekend.””[neWLine]
“”We had planned a picnic with my family. When morning came,
there was snow all over Jim’s car, covering it completely. He was
totally amazed and, actually, so were we! I believe the year was
1958. Don’t remember if we had the picnic or not, since the snow
obviously melted quickly.””[neWLine]
Jane Larson of Duke Center has two snow stories to tell us. The
day she was born – May 5,1945 – there were seven inches of snow on
the ground. In fact, her parents nearly named her
“”Stormy.””[neWLine]
And, then, on Mothers Day 1989, their boat was sitting in the
driveway in Duke Center – adorned by seven inches of snow. The snow
was so heavy that it tore the mooring cover.[neWLine]

GET THIS: We’ve been trying our best to ignore local gas prices
– It is futile to complain, is it not? – but a conversation led us
to a just published pamphlet put out by The Taxpayers
Network.[neWLine]
In it, are state-to-state comparisons – including the amount of
state tax on a gallon of gasoline. Lo and behold, which state do
you think leads the nation? Pennsylvania, of course.[neWLine]
In February 2006, our great state charged 31.2 cents a gallon.
Even New York was a “”mere”” 23.9 cents, we believe legislators
there have decided to forgo its tax to help consumers.[neWLine]
One keen observer added: “”We have the highest gas taxes and the
worst roads!””[neWLine]
Something to ponder on the morning commute…[neWLine]
Meanwhile, we hope to turn to this pamphlet again for more
depressing news.
