Here’s the scoop – there’s a new program ready to start in the
east end of town.
A Summer Park Program – a collaborative effort between the East
End Presbyterian Church, the City of Bradford, Penn State
Cooperative Extension, the Presbytery of Lake Erie, McKean County
4-H and Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency Summer Work
Program – is a free eight-week program that runs Monday through
Aug. 4.
“This is something I’ve wanted to do,” Dorothy Densmore said of
the program which will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. “I’ve seen
the need for it for years.” Densmore is the pastor at the East End
Presbyterian Church.
The program will run every day, Monday through Friday. The venue
will be split between Burns Park on Kendall Avenue and the East End
Presbyterian Church. A free lunch will be served at the church from
noon to 1 p.m.
Densmore said she wanted to start a program in the east end of
town, because there’s “nothing for kids” and it would spur a
hometown feeling.
“You grow where you are planted,” she said.
She added this may be a pilot program that could extended to
other parks in future summers.
Michelle Perschke of Bradford, a summer intern, is running the
program.
The first week of the program is “Let’s Grow,” where the
participants will plant their own vegetable garden.
Other weeks include building rockets, finding different things
to do with chocolate syrup, cooking like a master and solving
mysteries by learning to use invisible ink.
To register, contact the Penn State Cooperative Extension or the
East End Presbyterian Church.
The program is open for school-age children only.
