RIDGWAY – Elk County Catholic held off Curwensville 9-8 to win
the District 9 Class A softball title Saturday.
ECC led 9-4 in the seventh inning, but Curwensville plated four
runs to cut the deficit to 9-8. Curwensville had a runner on first
and second with two outs, but Laura Scott got Samantha Haney to
ground out to second for the final out of the contest.
Scott went the distance, allowing 11 hits, fanning one and
walking three.
Nicole Snyder (2-for-3, RBI), Kaitlyn Coroso (two runs scored),
Laken Lenox (1-for-4, run scored), Scott (2-for-2, RBI), Emily
Riddle (scored two runs) and Andrea Brem (scored two runs) led
ECC.
The Lady Crusaders took a 4-0 lead after one inning.
ECC plays Beth Center at 5 p.m. today at Brockway.
