Motorcycle and ATV crashes reported over the weekend

The sunny Memorial Day weekend was inviting to motorists of all
kinds, but the weekend also brought danger to many motorcyclists
and all-terrain vehicle drivers traveling in the area.

The Bradford Township Police Department is investigating a
motorcycle and car accident at 3:22 p.m. Saturday at the
intersection of Interstate Parkway and Sullivan Road.

Police said a car driven by Debra A. Welch, 50, of Limestone,
N.Y., was traveling east from Sullivan Road onto Interstate Parkway
when it went into the path of an oncoming motorcycle driven by
Robert L. Hotelling Jr., 61, of Bradford.

Police said Hotelling attempted to avoid the accident but was
unable to do so before hitting the car.

Police said Hotelling was thrown about 10 feet and was not
wearing a helmet. He was complaining of back pain at the scene and
was transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center by the Bradford
City Medic-Ambulance. No information was available on Hotelling’s
condition Sunday evening, according to a nursing supervisor at
BRMC.

The motorcycle was towed from the scene, according to
police.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Bradford Township
Volunteer Fire Department.

Meanwhile, Ridgway-based state police are investigating an ATV
crash at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the Timberline ATV Trail, south of
Route 948/66 near the Village of Russell City in Highland
Township.

Police said an eight-year-old male juvenile from Ohio was
moderately injured when the ATV he was operating hit a tree.

Police said the juvenile was transported via helicopter to an
unknown medical facility.

The juvenile’s father, Alojs A. Grajzl, was cited through
Magisterial District Judge George King of Johnsonburg for Vehicle
Code Violation 7725(e) – permitting an eight-year-old to operate an
ATV without the required training, according to police.

Elsewhere, a motorcycle and truck crash left two people hurt at
7:38 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Seaward and Jackson
avenues.

The driver of the motorcycle, Christopher T. Budinger, 36, of 60
S. Kendall Ave., Bradford, was not wearing a helmet and was ejected
from the motorcycle during the crash. He had a moderate injury,
according to police, and was taken via Mercy Flight helicopter to
Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

According to patient information at ECMC Sunday, Budinger was
seen and released from the emergency room at the hospital and was
not admitted.

According to Bradford City Police, a truck driven by Joshua D.
Yaworsky, 17, of 53 Burnside Ave., Bradford, and owned by Nicholas
Yaworsky of the same address, was stopped on Seaward Avenue, facing
north, with one vehicle in front of it, turning left onto Jackson
Avenue.

After the vehicle turned, police said a witness stated that
Yaworsky’s truck “paused” then proceeded to make a left turn onto
Jackson Avenue. While turning left, the truck hit a motorcycle,
driven by Budinger, which was traveling south on Seaward
Avenue.

Police said Yaworsky stated he did not see the motorcycle until
the accident or just seconds prior, and that Yaworsky had a minor
injury; the Bradford City Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the
scene, according to police.

Police said Yaworsky will be charged with an illegal left-hand
turn for not yielding the right-of-way to the approaching
vehicle.
