Plans moving along for Family Video Movie Club in Bradford

Plans for the new Family Video Movie Club Inc. are moving ahead,
and there may be demolition at the corner of West Washington and
North Center streets in as little as a month.

On Tuesday, Bill Mohler, vice president of Family Video, said
right now, they are “just trying to get the paperwork finished
up.”

When asked how soon area residents would see proof of the
store’s impending arrival, Mohler replied, “In the next 30 days …
we’re hoping to be knocking down soon.”

And about 90 days after that, construction should be under way,
he added.

“By the end of September it should be open,” Mohler said of the
Bradford location. “By the time snow flies, we should be open up
there.”

Plans are to build a 7,000-square-foot, one-story building on
the location that currently houses the Greens Court apartments and
some houses.

The video store would likely employ 12 to 14 with a combination
of full-time and part-time positions.

He added that there is no final agreement as of yet for a lease
for the additional space planned in the building. At a zoning
hearing in March, Mohler said a sandwich/pizza-type restaurant
would likely be the tenant there.

“Leases are going back and forth between a potential tenant,”
Mohler said Tuesday, adding he could not say more about it because
no agreement has been reached.

While Bradford is still waiting to see what face Family Video
will bring to the neighborhood, Olean, N.Y., has a nearly finished
product that will likely be quite similar.

According to the company’s Web site, there is a location at 1504
W. State St. that has yet to open. Mohler said he had no
information on that location, as he works with the Pennsylvania
projects rather than those in New York state.

Meanwhile, the Bradford Redevelopment Authority has been working
to relocate tenants from the Greens Court apartments into other
properties, such as similar apartments on Elm Street.

Family Video is the largest privately held video chain in the
country and the third largest video chain in the country. The
company owns the properties at each of its locations.
