Rain or shine, on Saturday people will be taking to the streets
in search of whatever bargains can be found at Bradford’s fourth
annual Townwide Garage Sales.

“It’s through the townships, too,” explained Amber Kalac of the
Main Street Mercantile, which also houses the Main Street Manager’s
office. Manager Diane DeWalt was unavailable for immediate
comment.

The townwide event is being organized by the Downtown Bradford
Business District Authority.

The sales are set to begin at 9 a.m. and will end – well, who
knows?

“Whenever you decide you are done or someone sells out,” Kalac
said with a laugh.

“We’ve got Bradford City, Derrick City, Lewis Run and the
townships,” she said, reading from a map of sale locations, adding
there are a few in Bradford and Foster townships as well.

Listed alphabetically from Abbott Road to West Washington Street
– and everywhere in between – there are about 70 locations on the
sale map. And the items listed for sale range from antiques to
Zippo lighters – and encompass just about everything else in the
alphabet as well.

“The maps are available at the Main Street Mercantile and at all
of the Crosby Mini Marts,” Kalac said.

Participation has increased this year over last, Kalac said,
explaining there are a few more sales listed.

“People really like it,” she said of participating in a townwide
event, which draws larger crowds than sporadic sales might.

Kalac said there was a cost for participants to list with the
Authority’s event. The participants then get a listing on the sale
map, which includes a brief description of the items available for
sale at that location.

“And you get a sign for your yard in case people don’t have a
map,” she said.

The Greater Bradford Senior Activity Center is participating
this year, she added, explaining food will be available there. A
bake sale is planned at the Corydon Township Volunteer Fire
Department social hall at 28 Main St.

The Grace Lutheran Church on Mechanic Street will be having a
sale, as well. It will be indoors if there is rain.

According to the National Weather Service forecast for Saturday,
there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday,
with partly cloudy skies with a high around 75 degrees.
