ERIE – Brittany McLean ripped the game-winning triple to give
Pitt-Bradford a 1-0 win over Lake Erie in the first round of the
AMCC tournament on Friday.
Also leading the second-seeded Lady Panthers (32-5), Keelan Holt
and Catrina Retterer each doubled.
“It was a great game,” praised Tina Phillips, UPB coach. “Both
sides played really well.”
Kristy Zavinski pitched the complete eight innings, firing a
six-hitter and fanning seven batters.
“Kristy was awesome today,” Phillips said. “It was one of the
best games I’ve ever seen her pitch.
“She did a nice job hitting her spots and the defense played
well behind her. Leanne Kramer did a nice job on second base.”
Ashley Johnson was on the hill for third-place Lake Erie. She
allowed five hits, struck out five and walked two.
“Lake Erie made some great catches,” Phillips offered. “Their
shortstop made a phenomenal play. She caught an over-the-shoulder
foul ball going up the left field line and threw out our runner –
who made a nice slide – at home plate.
The Lady Panthers advance to face top-seed Penn State Behrend
today at 10 a.m.
“Our plan was this,” Phillips explained. “We’re just going to go
out and win three. One down, two to go.”
