RTS for Wednesday

EARLIER ONE: Judy Warnick of Eldred phoned Tuesday to tell us
she’s had hummingbirds in her yard since April 26 – a few days
before the May 1 arrival we told you about. She also had an oriole,
but she didn’t have a feeder out so it hasn’t returned.

HAPPY DAYS: Our recent column about the old Bradford Theater
brought some feedback:

Bill Jamieson writes, “Your RTS item about famous stars who
appeared at the Bradford Theater reminded me of another. In the
mid-60s Gypsy Rose Lee was interviewed on a TV show shortly before
Christmas.”

“She mentioned that one of her happiest memories was of a
Christmas in Bradford, Pa., when the cast set up a Christmas tree
backstage. This happened in the ’20s when she was touring as a
child in a vaudeville act.”

Dick Chiarilli of Amherst, N.Y., writes, “Your article on the
Bradford Theatre brought back memories of the great Shea’s Theatre,
in Bradford, that didn’t escape the wrecking ball. What a wonderful
show place that was.”

“Years ago, I remember the same thing was going to happen to the
majestic Shea’s in Buffalo but fortunately many concerned citizens
came to the rescue, and it is now the anchor of the theatre
district in Buffalo.”
