Smethport artist Julie Mader has produced a custom pen and ink
drawing for the Moving Wall fundraising efforts.
The drawing depicts a composition illustrating various elements
of the Vietnam War.
After spending countless hours watching actual movies of the
Vietnam War as research, Mader completed the drawing in about 60
hours. It was done in her free-lance studio at home, where she does
all of her art work.
The original copyrighted Vietnam drawing will be reduced and
reprinted on acid-free, heavy stock as an 8 inch by 10 inch
lithograph. Only 50 prints will be reproduced for sale. Each will
be signed by the artist and dated for the days that the Moving Wall
will be on display in Smethport. The drawings are on sale at the
Merchandise Center in the American Legion at 419 West Main St.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday until May 23
when hours will be added from 6 to 8 p.m. in the evening.
Although Mader studied briefly with noted Oregon-based
watercolor artist, Claudia Nice, she is mostly self-taught. Her
original watercolor paintings of Smethport area scenes and pen and
ink drawings are popular in the Smethport area.
She has donated her work in the past to the McKean County
Collaborative Board and the Hamlin Memorial Library. She is the
mother of two daughters.
