WHOLE GROUP: Finally, we get a chance to return to a subject of
previous Round the Squares – individuals who were on the police
department in the 1950s.
Joette Johnson, whose father was James J. Cousins, stopped by
with some information that might complete the story – at least for
a portion of that time period.
We aren’t sure where the information was taken from, but a full
sheet of photographs from 1952 showed the brass as well as the
uniformed rank-and-file.
Edward Edmonds was chief, and the lieutenants were Leith Dennis,
A.J. Palazzetti and Robert Zimmerman. Earl Shunk was sergeant.
Other offices on the force were John Gilmore, James Cousins,
John Woodley, Robert Stidd, Frank Pascarella, Joseph Linane, T.J.
McAndrew, John Deibler, Jack Arbuckle, Charles Johnson, Bernard
Backer, Reynold Florentine, Gerald Beyler, Leo Carney, Richard
Miller, D.F. Thompson, L.A. Straight, Michael Tancar.
Also pictured is a woman, Grace M. Norton, who appears to be in
some type of uniform.
Joseph L. Hinaman was the mayor.
We also have a separate sheet of photos – obviously from a later
year since A.J. Palazzetti was chief and John Still, mayor.
Most of the same officers were pictured but there are a few new
faces: John Roberts, John Colosimo, Peter DePalma, Bernard Ray,
George Bove, Theodore Greenberg, Richard Cavallero, Ralph Schiappa,
Neil Fields and Edward McQuillen.
We bet some of those names ring bells.
