Three staff members were injured Friday morning when they tried
to break up a scuffle between two inmates at Federal Correctional
Institution McKean.
The staff involved were taken to Bradford Regional Medical
Center to be checked more thoroughly for injuries, said Roberta
Fitch, institution duty officer.
Later in the day, one of the inmates was taken by ambulance to
BRMC for X-rays.
“We had a slight altercation between two inmates,” said Fitch.
“When staff break them up, sometimes they get scrapes or bruises
and we just have them checked out to make sure they are OK. There
were no serious injuries.”
At 2:41 p.m., a call came over the radio for an ambulance to go
to FCI McKean for a “male assault victim with a head injury and
loss of consciousness.”
Fitch said one of the inmates from the morning altercation “had
a bump on his head and as they are unable to conduct X-rays at the
prison, sent him out for X-rays as a precautionary measure.”
Neither the names of the staff nor inmates involved were
released.
Specifics of the altercation could not be released either.
Fitch reported that the institution was running normally
following the incident.
