Nobody injured in fire on Congress Street

No one was injured in a structure fire at 296 Congress St.
Saturday morning.

The cause of the fire at the three-story home owned and
previously occupied by Stephanie Cramer, 41, is still under
investigation, Punxsutawney-based state police fire marshal Charles
Gross said Sunday afternoon.

The estimated cost of damages was not available Sunday.

The Bradford City Fire Department was called to the scene at
7:40 a.m., and upon arrival, saw heavy smoke coming from the attic
and eaves, a city firefighter said, adding there was fire coming
through the attic window and from the back room of the second
floor.

The house was vacant at the time of the fire, he said, adding
the owner/occupants – Cramer and her husband – had recently
moved.

There was water and smoke damage to the attic, heavy fire damage
to the rear back room in addition to smoke and water damage
throughout the house.

Ten firefighters, Tower 1, Engine 1, MA 1, the chief’s car, MA1A
and Medic One responded to the scene and stayed until about 9:45
a.m.

Gross said he used an excelerant-sniffing canine as part of his
investigation, adding the use of the dog was fairly common any time
the cause of the fire is not immediately obvious. The animal is
trained to detect the presence of ignitable liquids, he said, and
indicates when something at the scene should be sent to a
laboratory for further analysis.

Gross, who said he was conferring with city police on the
investigation, also said he anticipated his final report on the
fire will be complete today.

No current address for Cramer was listed in the fire report,
officials said.

Cramer was jailed Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 cash bail after
her third arraignment in as many months, according to court
records. She is facing felony theft charges for allegedly stealing
a total of $461,614.91 from her employer between January of 2003
and December of 2005.

She was released on bail following arraignments in January and
February. A preliminary hearing on the latest charges has been set
for March 22 in front of Magisterial District Judge Dominic
Cercone.

There was no further information Sunday night.

Also on Saturday, the Bradford City Fire Department responded to
an all-terrain vehicle fire in the parking lot of the Comfort
Inn.

At 5:40 p.m., the gas tank of a Polaris Scrambler caught fire.
City firefighters put the fire out with a dry chemical extinguisher
and a water can.

The ATV is owned by Dennis Waldinger of Fry Road in Edinboro,
who was staying at the motel.

Firefighters were on scene with Tower 1 less than 30
minutes.

No one was injured, fire officials said.
