LANDOVER, Md. – Bradford (Pa.) High School’s Erin Hannon won a
silver medal in the high jump at the Nike indoor track and field
national meet Sunday.
Hannon, a senior, had a leap of 5’8 3/4″, her best of the year.
She finished behind Patience Coleman of North Carolina.
In addition, Hannon was fourth in the pentathlon Saturday. She
jumped 5’7″ in the high jump, 17’6 1/2″ in the long jump, threw the
shot put 29’10 3/4″, ran 9.36 in the 60 hurdles and 2:48 in the
800. She scored a total of 3,297 points.
“This was Hannon’s second pentathlon and to finish fourth in the
Nike Indoor national meet is excellent,” Bradford coach Larry
Stillman said. “It is a very demanding series of events. She had to
dig deep to medal.”
Commenting on Hannon’s silver in the high jump, Stillman noted,
“To be able to come back with a season-best jump after the test of
the pentathlon Saturday is a great accomplishment.”
Hannon finishes her indoor career with 10 state indoor medals
and four national indoor meet medals.
In addition, she received All-American certificates for her
performances in the high jump and pentathlon.
Last week, Hannon garnered three all-state selections (long
jump, triple jump, high jump) for her efforts during the indoor
season.
“We are very happy for her and wish her even greater success
next year and beyond,” Stillman added.
Bradford’s Sara Lonzi, a sophomore distance runner, competed in
her first Nike indoor national meet. She ran 11:27.85, breaking the
school’s indoor two-mile record. Lonzi finished 15th out of 24
runners.
“That is an excellent start on the national level,” Stillman
declared. “We are pleased she had the opportunity to run.
Hopefully, she will be back next year. It was a great indoor season
for Sara and Erin, two fine young ladies.”
Both Hannon and Lonzi competed unattached.
