Smethport High School’s Vince Kinniburgh is among six additions
to the Raabe Classic rosters this week.
Kinniburgh, 5-10, 150 pounds, starred at quarterback and safety
for the Hubbers.
He will continue his education at the University of Pittsburgh
at Bradford. An honor roll student, he lettered three years in
football and basketball, four years in baseball and won the Players
Choice Award in baseball.
His reason for wanting to play in the Raabe Classic is to “play
one last time.”
His biggest thrill was rushing for 175 yards against Kane. He
enjoys sports and hunting.
The Pittsburgh Steelers is his favorite team and Troy Polamalu
his favorite player.
He is joined on the Pennsylvania roster by Chris Haynes of
Cameron County and Joshua Nordin of Warren.
Haynes, 6-6, 265 pounds, will further his education learning to
be a heavy equipment operator at a school to be determined.
He won three letters in football and wrestling and one in track.
In 2005, he was heavyweight wrestling champion in the Big 30
Classic and mid-season Clarion Classic.
Haynes said it will be “an honor” playing with the top football
players in the area.
His biggest thrill is “stopping players who think they can run a
ball by me.”
He uses his spare time to hunt, shoot archery, play paintball,
motorcycle and play other sports.
The Denver Broncos is his favorite team.
Nordin, 6-3, 195 pounds, played tight end and outside
linebacker. He will continue his football career at Mercyhurst
College while majoring in criminal justice.
During his senior year he was a football captain and earned a
spot on the Region 5 second team at tight end on offense and
linebacker on defense.
He said, “It’s and honor to be recognized for my hard work.”
Being the leader of the team and beating Meadville in six
overtimes are his biggest thrills.
Hunting, fishing and playing the guitar are his main hobbies.
The Texas Longhorns is his favorite and Vince Young his favorite
player.
Added to the New York roster are Marc Johnson of Cuba-Rushford,
Jared Lowe of Portville and Jesse Salazar of West Valley.
Johnson, 6-1, 200 pounds, was a team captain while playing tight
end and linebacker. He will further his education at SUNY Geneseo
majoring in pre-optometry.
Besides his football honors he was a basketball team captain and
all-star. In track he was a four-year all-star.
“My brother played in the game and I have been wanting to play
ever since,” Johnson said. “I’ve watched the games and I love the
atmosphere.”
His biggest thrill was catching a touchdown pass in the first
quarter of the first game he started.
He enjoys playing basketball and throwing the shot put and
discus. He also enjoys watching movies and working.
His favorite team is the University of Michigan and Shawn
Alexander his favorite player.
Lowe, 5-10, 200 pounds, will further his education studying
heavy equipment mechanics at Alfred State.
He was Portville’s defensive MVP. In addition, he was a
first-team all-league all-star in 2004 and 2005 for baseball as
well as football.
“It has been my goal to play in the Big 30 Game since I started
playing high school football,” Lowe noted.
His biggest thrill was winning at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Lowe’s hobbies include hunting, fishing and four-wheeling.
The Pittsburgh Steelers is his favorite team and Jerome Bettis
his favorite player.
Salazar, 6-0, 165 pounds, will be an electrical engineering
major at Carnegie Mellon University.
He is a recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Science Award as well
as the honor and high honor award.
On the gridiron, he was a Section VI qualifier and a second-team
Division 10 all-star.
“It’s an honor in athletics and another chance to play
football,” he said for his reasons for wanting to play in the Big
30 game.
His biggest thrill was gaining 180 yards on 11 carries to beat
Sherman.
He enjoys playing the guitar, riding dirt bikes, running and
playing the trumpet.
The 33rd annual game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at
Bradford’s Parkway Field. The game brings together graduated
seniors from Pennsylvania against graduated seniors from New
York.
Today’s additions bring the total to 24 players – 12 aside.
